19 People Dead in 7.0-Magnitude Earthquake in Sichuan

Last night, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Jiuzhaigou County, a mountainous region known for its natural beauty in China’s south-western province of Sichuan. It has killed at least 19 people, and injured 247 people, reported by leading Chinese media platform, The Paper.

Data reveals that more than 38,000 tourists were travelling there yesterday.

Sichuan authorities are doing the best they can to monitor numbers during this busy touristy Summer.

The China Earthquake Administration has reacted fast, and declared the highest level of the four-tiered emergency response for earthquakes. It has sent officers to deal with the natural disaster.
