A special gala, celebrating the richness of China's traditional operas, known as Xiqu, is set to be broadcast on China Media Group's state TV channel CCTV 11 during the Lantern Festival. This event marks an important cultural celebration that falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month. The gala will showcase a diverse array of opera performances, highlighting the profound cultural heritage and artistic achievements of various opera forms including the renowned Mei Lanfang Peking Opera School, Huaiju Opera, and Huangmei Opera.

The opening act, Shuiyun Meixiang, aims to immerse viewers in the festive atmosphere of the Lantern Festival, featuring the local folk culture of Taizhou in East China's Jiangsu Province, which is also the hometown of the legendary Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang. In homage to Mei, the gala will feature classic selections of Peking Opera performed by young artists, celebrating his contribution to the art form.

This grand event is not just a showcase of traditional operas but also a gathering of nearly 20 opera styles from across China, bringing together numerous winners of the Plum Performance Award. It represents a significant effort to preserve and promote the rich tapestry of Chinese traditional operas to both national and international audiences.
