China to enact food security law

The draft law on ensuring food security was submitted at the Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature, for the first review on Monday.

The draft covers 11 chapters and 69 articles, including general provisions, farmland protection, food production and reserves, food circulation, food processing, food emergency response, food conservation, supervision and management, legal responsibilities, and supplementary provisions.

The draft law adopts a problem-oriented approach. It aims to comprehensively strengthen the foundation of food security, effectively enhance the capacity to prevent and withstand associated risks, ensure the effective supply of food, and ensure that the Chinese people have full control over their own food security.
