China's first facial recognition thermometers installed on buses

Guangzhou, capital of South China's Guangdong Province, began to install facial recognition thermometers on buses on Tuesday to ensure safer and faster detection of symptoms.

The thermometer can measure people' temperatures in as fast as one second and report it to the bus driver, guaranteeing less contact and saving time, especially when there is a large flow of passengers, said the Guangzhou City Transportation Bureau on Tuesday.

Passengers can have their temperatures checked when swiping transportation cards at the bus entrance, where the thermometer will scan their faces and measure  temperatures precisely in their forehead area.

The smart data system can report and store passengers' information and track the real-time data of buses and drivers, if necessary.

Guangzhou is the first city to install the facial recognition thermometer on buses, which may be rolled out further in other parts of the nation.
