Southwest China's Doctor Day music video goes viral online

A music video made by a hospital in Southwest China's Sichuan province and the local health education authority recently went viral on the internet, cnr.cn reported Sunday.

The short video, I am a Doctor, not a God, was created by Luzhou People's Hospital and the Sichuan Provincial Health Education and Publicity Department to mark the second Chinese Doctors' Day on Monday. It features a leading male doctor who raps about doctors' bittersweet moments to a strong rhythm, while other medical staff sing and perform in the background.

Since its release on Aug 15, the video has spread across China's social media, striking a chord with many medical workers across the country. Liang Ying, head of the hospital's publicity department said, "A lot of my colleagues told me after they reposted the video in the WeChat moments, many people showed care and concern to them. I think the video makes people understand the challenges doctors encounter, and show them doctors are just common people. Like them, we also need care and support."

The rap lyrics in the music video are particularly well-written: "I am a doctor, not a god, I am a common man.", "We work day and night, and have no time to go home to dine," and "We are on call 24 hours a day, most of our phone calls come from emergency rooms and take-out deliveries." The rhyming words vividly portray the everyday life of doctors, and the professional performance of the cast wowed many people.

According to Liang Ying, the whole video was shot in Luzhou People's Hospital, and the performers are the staff members at the hospital and their family members. Due to the busy schedule of the doctors, they could only shoot within limited hours.

"We created the video to show the real lives of medical workers to the general public, in the hope of helping to build a harmonious relationship between doctors and patients in the long term," she said.

Many viewers left comments; some said, "to patients, doctors are sometimes god-like in existence, because they are the only hope." Others felt patients should show more understanding toward doctors. "Their job is really tough," people remarked.
