Tongxiang, east China's Zhejiang Province, is famous for its over 4,000 years' history of sericulture. Its silkworm breeding and mulberry planting tradition has been listed by the State Council as the national intangible cultural heritage.

Silkworm farmers of Xidong Village have significantly improved profitability after cooperation with sericulture companies and scientific researchers began in 2018. By the end of 2020, the village's silk production is estimated to reach 22,500 kilograms, which could increase farmers' income by nearly a million yuan (about 150,000 U.S. dollars).
