Zhejiang launches flagship media platform

Tide News, a flagship news app affiliated to Zhejiang Daily Press Group, was launched on Feb 18.

A flagship media platform affiliated to Zhejiang Daily Press Group was launched on Feb 18, aiming to provide better new services and reach more readers. Tide News, the key news app of the platform also welcomed its debut.

With "Take root in Zhejiang, interpret China and influence the world" as its mission, Tide News is to tell the stories of Zhejiang in the new era and strive to be a good participant, recorder and promoter of the province's development. It is to interpret hot topics across the country from a national perspective, and showcase China's development through "the window of Zhejiang". 

Zhang Zhi'an, professor of School of Journalism of Fudan University, said that the launch of Tide News app marks the development of apps by the mainstream media is entering the era of 2.0, and the apps' ability to integrate resources will be stronger and its influence will be further enhanced.

As the flagship of the major media platform of Zhejiang, the Tide News app integrates three former news apps of Zhejiang Daily Press Group, Zhejiang News, Tianmu News and The Hour, as well as gathers provincial-wide news resources including those of the province's 11 cities and 90 counties (cities and districts). 

The name of the app comes from the Qiantang River tidal bore, the world's largest. Tidal bore refers a phenomenon, where the leading edge of an incoming tide forms a wave that travels up a river against the current.

With original news production + PGC, UGC and OGC as the key means, the app will build up a content system of video + article and form a new media communication system that covers the whole network and reaches a wider range of users. 

In terms of content presentation, users can obtain popular, high-quality, accurate and tailor-made contents via recommendations made by editors, users, and other means. It will also provide personalized services for users from and outside Zhejiang.

A cooperation scheme was announced at the launching ceremony, enabling all around cooperation with companies including e-commerce giant Alibaba, tech company Huawei, Douyin (Chinese version of TikTok).
